Bhutan is now self-sufficient in fruits and eggs, according to the performance audit report on food self-sufficiency and security.

The report found that the self-sufficiency ratio (SSR) in 2016 for fruits stood at 132 percent and 100 percent for eggs.

However, food self-sufficiency remains a challenge because of huge imports of food items. Between 2012 and 17, a total of 893,436.70MT of food commodities was imported.
