Completing Bachelor of Laws from Karnataka State Law in 2014, Dechen Thaiye Dorji, who has decided to stand as NC candidate for Punakha, believes his background in law would help to bridge the gap between the government and the people.

Dechen Thaiye Dorji, 34, is from Toeb Siluna and has a postgraduate degree in National Law from Royal Institute of Management.

He believes that the basis of any good nation is good laws and policies. “NC being house of review, my legal experience would help enrich the house.”

Dechen Thaiye Dorji worked as chief advocate, legal officer and legal advisor in various agencies.

He said that as a practicing lawyer, he has had to deal with many issues and disputes related to both civil and criminal matters. If elected, his area of focus would be on commercialising agriculture, domestic violence, youth issues and improving social welfare. “Having gained practical field experience enhances me in drawing more realistic and vital changes.”

He said that being a lawyer, he has the requisite legal knowledge to deliberate and discuss the bills from a legal perspective.

He said that as there are many challenges when it comes to enforcing laws, it is important to advocate people about them.
