ST Auto Spa: Motorists, who find that it’s a long wait to get their vehicle washed, could check out ST Auto Spa in Babesa, Thimphu.
ST Auto Spa offers automatic services that can wash the outside of a car in two minutes.
The set up, imported from China, was installed at the cost of Nu 8M, according to proprietor Sangay Tshering. “It uses recycled water and biodegradable detergents, so it’s environmentally friendly,” he said, adding that Thimphu City corporation allowed him to set up the service, because it does not use treated water.
“We pump the water from Thimphuchu and recycle it,” Sangay said. “So there’s no pressure on the already scarce water supply.”
The rates range from a minimum of Nu 170 for an exterior wash, including tyres, for a small car, to Nu 600 for a premium wash for a large vehicle like land cruiser or a Hiace bus.
At the Olakha workshop area, a wash and an interior air blow service on average costs about Nu 200, excluding tips.
The agriculture minister, Pema Gyamtsho, who launched the service, said, although the country had good water laws, it has not been able to implement even simple things like stopping people washing cars in nearby streams or rivers, simply because there was no other alternative.
“Now that we have facilities like this, we should be able to implement certain rules,” he said, adding that using water judiciously and avoiding pollution of water is a national priority.
