Diplomacy: Ambassador Tshewang Chophel Dorji presented his credentials to the President of Singapore, Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam at a ceremony on October 27, accrediting him as ambassador of Bhutan to Singapore, according to a foreign affairs press release.

Following the ceremony and meeting with the President, ambassador Tshewang C Dorji conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of His Majesty The King and the Prime Minister to the President. He expressed the deep appreciation of the Royal Government for Singapore’s assistance and continued support particularly in education and human resource development. The ambassador also expressed his commitment to continue expanding and strengthening the bilateral relations between Bhutan and Singapore.

The president congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and expressed his hope that the existing relations between the two countries will be further enhanced during the ambassador’s tenure. The president highlighted that tourism and economic cooperation have great potential in promoting relations between the countries. The president said that the people of Singapore were deeply touched by the visit of Their Majesties The King and Queen in March 2015 for the state funeral of their Late Prime Minister and founding father of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew.

Bhutan and Singapore established formal diplomatic relations in September 2002.

Ambassador Tshewang C Dorji is the fifth Ambassador to be accredited to Singapore.
