A sudden flash flood washed away the bazam over Marachu that connects Kago and Lopokha villages of Athang gewog with Phobjikha area in Wangdue on August 26 evening.
The flash flood has left thousands of fish dead and slightly damaged the irrigation channels, Athang gup Khandu Dorji said. He said villagers are surprised that there was no rainfall to trigger the flashflood.
However, the villagers would not remain cut off as they have a suspension bridge over the river. The bazam was constructed in 2011 for the two villages and also to explore eco-tourism in the gewog.
Gup Khandu said no casualties and damages have reported to date. “We have reported the issue to dzongrab,” he said. “The small lakes between the hills of Trongsa and Wangdue might have burst and caused the flashflood.”
