Bhutan out of ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships

Fifteen-year-old Kinley represented the country at the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships being held in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates.

Abdurahim Yoqubov, 16, from Tajikistan defeated Kinley in the bantam 54kg weight category knocking him out of the tournament yesterday.

Bhutan Boxing Federation’s coach Tashi Phuntsho said that Kinley is one of the best junior boxers in the country.

“Kinley fought bravely. He was aggressive and had the will to fight,” said the coach. “However, the opponent was more skillful.”

This is the first international tournament for the Class VII student.

He was selected from RBA wing eight and enrolled in the sub-junior boxing team in 2016.

A total of 239 boxers comprising of 170 boys and 69 girls from 26 countries are taking part in the nine-day championship.
