Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party (BKP) declared  former general manager of a company based in Uganda (East Africa), Norbu Tshering, as its candidate from South Thimphu.

The 53-year-old from Semtokha worked as a general manager at the West Nile Rural Electrification Company Limited in Uganda from 2015 to 2017. He also served as general manager under the distribution and customer services in the Bhutan Power Corporation Limited (BPC) from 2011 to 2015.

He holds Masters degree in Engineering from Thailand.

Adding that there is lack proper planning for the nation, Norbu Tshering said he would like to focus is in the area of planning and to make the nation corruption-free.

“This not only takes time to implement a plan, but also a huge amount of budget is wasted,” Norbu Tshering said. “Majority of the budget comes from the donor country and we can’t waste the budget like that. Proper planning is very important.”

Having experience in the service delivery while serving in the distribution and customer services, he added that while having to deal with the people, he realized that there is a lack of service delivery.

Norbu Tshering feels there is a need to make service delivery more efficient.

BKP’s president, Dasho Neten Zangmo, said that people should not shy away from the politics. “An individual must look at politics as governance and service delivery like Norbu Tshering responded to the institutional that has larger cause.  Quality of the party is important and not the numbers of candidates in the party.”
