BKP declares 14 candidates

Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party (BKP) yesterday introduced Dorji Gyaltshen to contest the National Assembly elections from Khamdang-Ramjar constituency, Trashiyangtse. He has five years of experience running a legal firm based in Phuentsholing. He has a BBLLB Degree from Bengaluru University in India.

On June 2, BKP introduced Sangay Tenzin to contest from Trashigang’s Thrimshing-Kangpara constituency. He has 20-years of experience with the health ministry. He has a BSc in Public Health and hails from Ramchingma village, Thrimshing gewog.

Ten Gyamtsho will contest from Radhi-Sakten constituency, Trashigang. BKP introduced him on May 31. His career spans serving in various capacities for the Engineering Division of the Royal Bhutan Police throughout the country. He last served as the executive engineer at the RBP headquarters.

Ugyen Tenzin will contest for BKP from Limukha-Toewang constituency in Punakha. He brings with him 16 years of experience serving in many senior capacities with the agriculture ministry. He has a Master’s Degree in Agriculture Development from SUTROFOR, Erasmus Mundus, University of Copenhagen, Denmark and a second Masters Degree in Environmental Forestry, School of Environment and Natural Resources, University of Wales, Bangor, UK.

BKP has chosen two-time former National Council member from Pemagatshel, Jigmi Rinzin, to contest from Nanong-Shumar constituency, Pemagatshel. During his 10 years in the National Council, he chaired various parliamentary committees. He has a Chartered Certified Accountancy Degree from London, UK and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Sherubtse College. He began his career in Royal Audit Authority and later worked in Anti-Corruption Commission.

Along with Ugyen Tenzin and Jigme Rinzin, BKP introduced five other candidates from Pemagatshel, Mongar, Trongsa, Wangdue, and Bumthang on May 29. The party has Thinley Gyaltshen from Chumey-Ura, Gaylay Jamtsho from Kengkhar-Weringla, Karma Galay from Drakten-Langthel, Yeshey Jamtsho from Nyisho-Sephu, and Kinlay Dorji from Ngalam-Pemagatshel.

The party stated that given the importance of youth, BKP has a 20 percent reserved seat for youth in terms of candidate composition.

BKP introduced Lhakpa Tamang, Dhan Kumar Ghalley, Dr. Dechen Zangmo and Dorji Wangchuk on May 23.

Lhakpa Tamang from Sampheling gewog will contest from Phuentsholing-Chukha constituency. He has an experience of managing and implementing occupational hazard and safety standards.

Dr Dechen Zam will contest from Kabji-Talo constituency. During her 29 years in the education sector, she headed the English Department at the College of Education, Paro. She has a PhD in Education Curriculum Development and a Masters Degree in Education both from Australia.

Dhan Kumar Ghalley from Pemaling gewog will contest from Tashicholing constituency in Samtse. He has a Master’s Degree in Education from Archarya University, India. He has 29 years of experience at managerial levels in the education sector. He served as school principal in Haa, Paro, Trashigang and other dzongkhags.

The candidate from Khar-Yurung constituency, Pemagatshel, Dorji Wangchuk, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the College of Science and Technology. He is one of the recipients of the European Education Programme from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
