Ugyen Academy beats BCFC in a 10-goal thriller

BoB League: Ugyen Academy FC defeated Bhutan Clearing FC (BCFC) 6-4 in the first game after a month long break in the on going BOB National League that resumed on Sunday.

BCFC’s third home game, which was supposed to be played at the College of Science and Technology’s ground, was shifted to Changlimithang stadium.

Ugyen Academy took the lead in the 10th minute and doubled it in the 23rd minute after a powerful strike from Tshethrim Yozer. Three minutes later Tshering Dhendup scored another goal to give the Academy a huge advantage before the half time.

However, Bhutan Clearing FC got back in the game just before the end of the first half from striker Keazang’s goal in the 41st minute. BCFC levelled the score at 3-3 after scoring two quick goals within 10 minutes of the second half.

But the match and a crucial three points went to Ugyen Academy when the team from Punakha scored three more at the end of the 90 minutes.

The match between Academy and BCFC marked the end of six games for each team in the tournament. Only four games now remain in the tournament for the six teams participating.

Currently Thimphu FC and Thimphu City FC are topping the table with 13 points each but on a head to head record, Thimphu FC is on the top. Winners of the Thimphu A-division League, FC Terton is in the third place with 12 points.

With the win on Sunday, Ugyen Academy FC is in the fourth place with eight points followed by BCFC with four points. Debutant Paro United FC is at the bottom of the table without a single win.

The league will conclude on September 23 after a double match between Thimphu FC and Paro United FC and FC Terton and City along with the awarding of the trophies and cash prizes.

FC Terton will take on BCFC at the Changlimithang stadium tomorrow at 3 pm.
