Infrastructure: Five more football grounds in the country will get artificial turf by the end of January 2017.

Committee officials at the annual general meeting of BOC said that artificial turfs will be installed on the grounds of Gyelposhing, Kanglung, Phuentsholing, Samdrupjongkhar, and Bumthang.

Funds have been secured from Government of India (GoI) contract signed with an Indian company Acosa Sports Infrastructure Services.

Head of infrastructure development division, Kinley Tshering, said the installation work at Gyelposhing has already started.

“Installation work will soon begin in Phuentsholing,” he said.

The official said that actual installation project could take time because of preparations necessary before installation of artificial turf.

GoI has funded Nu 82 million for turf installation projects. Initially, the fund was earmarked for installation of only three turfs.

There is also a plan to lay an artificial turf in Tsirang. Bhutan Football Federation will fund the project.

The committee will carry out restructuring works at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu. The design of Nu 35 million GoI-funded project has been completed and tender floated already.

BOC also has plans to construct four multisport halls – one each in Phuentsholing, Bumthang, Punakha, and Samdrupjongkhar. Construction of multisport hall in Phuentsholing has already begun.
