The Royal Bhutan Police in Thimphu is still investigating the death of a four-year-old boy whose body was recovered from the bank of the Wangchhu below Terma Linca Resort yesterday.

The body was found around 9:20am.

The boy went missing on the afternoon of April 27, following which the family had filed a missing persons case with the police. The mother also posted a plea on Facebook, which went viral on social media.

The Thimphu police officer-in-charge (OC) said they received information from Terma Linca staff around 3pm on April 27 that a woman was in the Wangchhu.

Although police did not reveal much information, it was learnt that the police rescued her and took her home, where they learnt that the boy, who was the woman’s grandson, was missing.

Police and the boy’s family then started a search for the boy.

The Thimphu OC said they searched along the Wangchhu suspecting the boy would be near the river since the boy had left home with the grandmother, who was found near the river.

He also said the woman kept giving different versions of the story to police.

However, Kuensel learnt that the police detained the grandmother for interrogation and around 3am yesterday morning, she told police to look for the boy near the river.

Sources said the woman initially refused to accept that the boy was with her but some shopkeepers in the locality confirmed that he was with the woman and that they left in a taxi together.
