Sarpang police fished out the body of a seven-year-old boy from Shariphuchu or Balatung River in Sarpang’s Singye gewog on October 11.

The Pre-Primary student was seen returning from school alone around noon that day. It is suspected that the boy went swimming instead of going home straight.

His school uniform and bag were found by the riverbank. Police suspect that he drowned while swimming. Although the river is shallow and can be easily crossed by children, there is a small pool in it, which runs about 10.10 meters deep.

A joint examination by health officials of Sarpang hospital and police ruled out any foul play. The body was handed over to the deceased’s grandfather. The deceased has two younger sisters.

The case is being investigated.
