The last Damngoi Zomdu in Bumthang on March 10 for the Thromde nominated 36-year-old Kencho Tshering.

Kencho Tshering, who secured 306 ‘yes’ votes and 97 ‘no’ votes, served as a gewog administrative officer for last 10 years.

A total of 403 voters turned up for the Dhamngoi Zomdu that took place in Wangduchoeling Lower Secondary School.

Pema, 84 was the first voter to cast his vote. “Bumthang needs more choice,” he said.

The candidates have until March 19 to file in their nomination.

Bumthang now has two candidates contesting for the Council seat. Kencho Tshering will stand against the incumbent Nima.

Dhamngoi Zomdu in Bumthang began on March 6.
