With the end of the dhamngoi zomdu, Bumthang will have two candidates contesting the council elections.

On March 9, incumbent Nima secured 373 yes against 37 no from Tang gewog.

Standing against him is a former gewog administrative officer (GAO), Kencho Tshering, who is making his debut after serving the local government for 10 years. He is from Bumthang thromde. He secured 306 yes and 97 no votes.

During the dhamnogi zomdu in Bumthang, a total of 1,597 voters turned up. However, three gewogs of Ura, Choekhor and Chumey had no candidate.

In Ura gewog, 139 voters turned up for the zomdu. Voter turnout in Chumey gewog was 206 and Choekhor gewog had 439 voters turning up, the highest. Tang gewog saw 410 voters turning up to cast their votes and thromde had a voter turn out of 403.

Dhamngoi zomdu for Bumthang began on March 6 and concluded on March 10. The candidates have until March 19 to file their nomination with the office of the returning officer.
