Car veers off road, kills one

A 27-year-old man was killed when the Tucson he was travelling in veered off road at Lawala on the Wangdue-Trongsa highway around 1:30pm yesterday.

The incident occurred when he and his 25-year-old wife were returning from Rukubji where they had gone to reach their grandmother, who had come to attend the Chakrasamvara wang in Punakha.

Police said the car had gone 250 feet below the road and suspect that it could have skidded on ice because of over speeding.

Police said the man died when the rescue team was carrying him from the site while the wife was referred to Thimphu national referral hospital the same evening. The deceased was from Babesa, Thimphu and an employee of a private company.
