Cranes soar in Trashiyangtse

Trashiyantse, the home of the endangered blacked-necked cranes chose the party that it is symbolised with, the cranes.

In Bomdeling-Jamkhar, Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) candidate Dubthob won 3,541 votes against Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa (DNT) candidate, Sangay Dorji’s 2,710 votes. 

Dubthob said that in a democracy, everyone desires to form the government. “But we could not. That’s what democracy is. We must accept it because it is the people’s decision.”

Sangay Dorji said that even though he lost from his constituency, he was happy that DNT is forming the government. “I joined politics to serve the people and have no regrets. I served many years in different position,” he said. 

In Khamdang-Ramjar constituency, DNT candidate Karma Gyeltshen lost to former DPT’s Kuega Loday by 781 votes.  Kuenga Loday won 3,602 votes against Karma Gyeltshen’s 2,821 votes.

“I won from my constituency because people supported me even though they have nothing to gain,” he said adding that he has a responsibility to fulfill the people’s aspirations. “How would I fulfill all pledges by being in the opposition?”

Karma Gyeltshen said he was prepared for any outcome and was happy that his party is elected as the government.  “My good wishes goes to DPT candidate Kuenga Loday and all the people of Khamdang Ramjar constituency for participating in the election.’’ 

Trashiyangtse has 18,388 registered voters.
