Basketball: Crossovers defeated Royal Bhutan Army (RBA) 75-59 in the finals of the Thimphu B League basketball tournament at the swimming pool complex on Saturday.

Both teams were the top ones from their groups with six wins and zero defeats.

In a tightly contested game, Crossovers adapted a “box-and-1” defensive approach shutting down RBA’s top player Dawa.

Dawa with an average of 28 points per game throughout the tournament was hindered by the limited movement the defensive strategy created for him.

RBA were not able to figure out how to overcome this defensive technique used by the Crossovers which allowed them to take an early lead. They maintained a 10 point advantage for each quarter of the final game. Tshertum of Crossovers had 23 points in the game.

Despite focusing on a defensive game the Crossovers’ score rate was higher than their previous matches.

Crossovers defeated Effects in the semi finals of the tournament and RBA overcame Zhoems to reach the finals.

The two teams, Crossovers and RBA will now play in the A division league.

A total of 12 teams participated in the tournament that began on April 24 at the swimming pool complex in Thimphu.
