Debutant Paro FC stunned the defending champions Transport United FC at the Changlingmithang stadium on October 27 to lead the ongoing BOB national league 2018.

The win helped the visitors finish two points ahead of Transport United that had been leading the table until the ninth game week. Paro FC stands on top of the league’s table with 18 points.

While the visitors celebrated the title deciding game, the host slumped in disbelief at the stadium that saw supporters of both teams cheering throughout the game.

Paro FC’s Orok Orok picked up the deflected shot from his forward mate inside the penalty box to score his third goal against Transport United in the 52nd minute and gave his team a tough fought three points.

The match ended 0-1 in favour of Paro FC. 

He also rescued his team when they hosted Transport United at home, scoring two goals to snatch the win in the second half during the first meeting of the two in Paro.

Paro FC’s skipper Jigme Tenzin credited the win for the team’s hard work and the club’s commendable management. “I have never seen such supportive and encouraging management in my career so far. We are really happy.”

Paro FC will face Thimphu City FC that finished second in the league last year. The skipper said the club is not done with the league. “We have one more game to play for the title.  We are not looking back and we are going to win,” he said.

Transport United FC coach Ngawang said the team tried its best. “Unfortunately, the game was not satisfying. However, we will come back better next time in the final game against Ugyen Academy FC.”

Meanwhile, Ugyen Academy FC defeated Phuentsholing United 1-3 to finish second in the league at the end of game week nine yesterday. The win pushed Transport United to the third spot, Transport United’s lowest spot this edition.

Ugyen Academy FC and Transport United FC will play for the second time on November 3. The match between the two is one of the two title deciding matches. 

Ugyen Academy FC will finish two points ahead of Paro FC if the team wins the final game and Transport United will finish the league a point ahead of league leaders. The result will change as per the Paro FC’s result against Thimphu City FC.

The match between Paro FC and Thimphu City FC will decide the champions of the league this weekend. Paro FC needs a draw or a win against the latter to win the league.

In the final match of the game week nine, Thimphu City FC defeated Thimphu FC 2-1 to reduce table point difference with the league leaders.

Winning three points from the match, Thimphu City and Transport United FC, placed third and fourth are separated by only two points difference. The duo finished as winners, and runners-up in the previous edition.
