ECB: Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen graced the consecration ceremony of the Democracy House at Kawangjangsa, Thimphu yesterday.

The Democracy House would serve as the head office of the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB). A press release from the ECB stated that the structure stands as the symbol of democratic Bhutan.

The building is designed with a blend of the traditional and modern architectural styles. The floral design of the roof and the “D” shape of the edifice illustrates waxing moon symbolizing the progress of democracy and the steady trajectory of the Nation’s growth under the Democratic Constitutional Monarchy.

The free flowing form with no sharp edges, and the green and accessibility design features represent the flawlessness and inclusiveness of the path of democracy.

“The Democracy House ensures adequate, open and conducive space inspiring confidence and offering free access and movement for all,” the press release stated.

Biometric polling process, postal ballot process, maps of Dzongkhag Thromdes and Dzongkhag Yenlag Thromdes were also showcased during the ceremony.

Constructed with the financial support of the Government of India, the Democracy House is dedicated to the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

The consecration was presided over by the Leytshog Lopen and attended by the Minister of Economic Affairs, dignitaries and senior officials.
