Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) submitted Letter of Intent (LoI) to Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) yesterday to participate in the upcoming elections to the National Assembly.

Among the four political parties, DPT was the last to submit LoI.

LoI was filed as per section 198 of the election Act, which prescribes that it should be filed in a prescribed form within the seventh day after the release of the election schedule.

DPT general secretary Sangay Phurba said that his party also submitted a copy of the party’s election manifesto.

The general secretary said that the candidates would start their campaign from today. Earlier in the morning, the party offered prayers at the Semtokha Dzong.

Party President Pema Gyamtsho, vice presidents Dorji Wangdi and Lily Wangchuk, and the general secretary and party members were present while submitting the LoI at Democracy House.

Party officials said that the DPT is prepared to contest the elections. Campaigning by candidates, party officials said, would start from today after the acceptance of LoI.

ECB will issue the letter of acceptance after the scrutiny of the LoI today.

Starting today, the political parties can apply for election campaign funds.

The ECB will start releasing the election campaign fund from August 24 – Nu 150,000 per candidate.
