Entertainment: Pemagatshel’s Dzongkhag Tshogdu (DT) decided that it would be left to the drungkhag to decide whether to approve a proposal for a drayang in Nganglam.

Nganglam Dungpa Tshewang Tobgay, said: “The administration did not accept the proposal because only dzongkhag administration can approve such proposal.”

A few individuals have applied for drayang licences.

Dzongdag Phuntsho reminded that the administration should make sure the owner meets all the procedural requirements. “This issue has been going on for more than a year and it is about time this is solved. If other dzongkhags can have drayangs, why not Pemagatshel? But there should be valid argument whether to allow the business.”

However, not all the members were in favour of drayangs. Many members said that it is risky to take decisions because in the future owners might not take the risk if something happens inside the drayang and blame those who approved the proposal.

“What other dzongkhag does doesn’t mean we should also do the same. As much as the owner enjoys the profit he should also take risk,” Shumar Gup Lepo said.

Some of the members also mentioned that although drayangs provide employment opportunities, one should not forget about the impact it could have on young people.
