Fire: Hundreds of acres of forest in in Rukha and Samthang in Athang, Wangdue have been destroyed by a forest fire that continues to burn for the fifth day.

Locals, police, army, desuups, foresters and volunteers have been battling the fire since the evening of April 9.

Athang Gup Khandu Dorji said despite their efforts to contain the fire, strong winds during the evening are flaming the fire, making it more difficult for fire fighters to contain.

He said since April 12, the fire has spread to inaccessible terrain such as steep slopes.

Khandu Dorji said that there are no inhabitants or settlements in the fire’s path.

The cause of fire is yet to be determined.

This is the fourth forest fire in Athang this year.
