Former tshogpa detained for alleged choeten vandalism

Police in Mongar arrested a 31-year-old man from Khalong village in Narang gewog for allegedly attempting to vandalise a choeten in the gewog last month.

Sources said the man attempted to vandalise the kadam choeten of Gutsaphug in Narang on the night of April 1 this year but he could not take the main relics since he failed to break the concrete in which the relics were sealed.

Local people and gewog officials informed police about the incident and locals told police that they suspect the former chiwog.

Although Mongar police officials said the case is under investigation, and they would forward the case to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) once the investigation is complete, it was learnt that the man has confessed to police when they interrogated him.
