In the seventeenth century, it was Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, In the 19th century, it was Jigme Namgyal, in the 20th century, it was the successive kings, now in the early 21st century, it is Jigme Yezer Thrinley’s leadership for Bhutan. That is the destiny of our country and the people. Captain of the ship is very important.
In the name of democracy, if there is no leader and the govt. who can take the decisions which need not be consulted with the people, really don’t know where it will lead to. Yes voices of the people should be heard but it is not necessary that everyone wishes have to be fulfilled, with different people with different desire, not a single decision can come to consensus if any gov. is required to seek approval from the PEOPLE to decide. Therefore, BOLD leader is must who can take tough decisions in tough time. That is exactly what is there in JYT, we know he has fend off lot of criticism but at the same time there are thousands of people who admire him for his leadership who can take tough decision and make tough stand when required.
I’m afraid if we don’t have such charismatic leader, as our other political parties has promised to deliver which is from grassroots, everything what have been doing even during the reign of our kings, they have tried or heard the people’s voice but there should be some one who can decide what is good and what bad among different needs of the people.
Therefore, it is not a one man show, it is collective RULE headed by a charismatic leader that a country can only have and dream in JYT.
There can be only one Prime Minister of a country at a time and a party president for any political party. The DPT has JYT as it party president and therefore there was one PM in the past 5 years. All leaders have some leadership traits, which some may not like it but others will. One man’s show may be wrong, since Cabinet with 10 ministers and NA with 45 MP. Decisions are always made collectively but of course ideas may have to come from individuals. Party president must be strong without which party members and ministers will do what they want and that will be terrible, won’t it.
