The following points to be looked into;
1. Maximum staff in the research section and do we really needed ? No proven result from the farms last 10-15 years. our farmers need new varities of research products which is very economice for the poor people.
2. Officials in the farm has no idea about the importants of localgovernment & decentralization policey.
3.If we want to produce more allied Agriculture products and to over come Rupee crunch, we need to focus more important than in the farm.farms mandate is produce the farmers demand from the field and to supply in line with Dzongkhags demand. And in put supply & services are very limited at present.
4.The farm s mandate is to backup the extension services only for the farm supply and carry out the research works if it is required by the farmers to enhance lively hood.
5. It seems very less support for the field people ( extension staff) .The committe at the central level has limited knowledge about field progress and component activities thus field staff suffer in many ways ——————-.
6.The size of farm staff should be very minimum ,andfarm works are performed by contract labours.
7.some of gewogs are laying without extension staff and farmers need field staff to their respective gewog.
8.In put services are very poor and some farms have no other activities .seed and seedling supply very poor from the farm. eg time.,qnty required.quality and correspondence takes more than two months to carry out one activity. How we can move more vigrousely for the food proction that our country and farmers needs day to day. Any actions and changes needed if we really go for the properous of rural people and urban well being i terms of daily agri & livestock to be available on the table. What planners & policy markers say ? and decide please.
I am sure that Agriculture Ministry would agree that the extension services in the field has been weakened and no proper steps have been taken to strengthen. Author is right input supply is very poor specially in the south, no seeds or seedlings, no pp chemicals, no feed, just the idle EA is there in the office playing games in the computer with only few exceptional ones. What is DAOs doing in the field? They hardly tell them what to do, no worries at all…….so why not agriculture production go down?
Last time one of my animals was sick, very sick so I took it to the gewog center for treatment, by the time I arrived there it was 1.30 pm on Saturday. The Livestock EA scolded me so much saying its Saturday and office is closed. Is the extension service like this? I remember Livestock officials working round the clock when there is emergency case.
