Despite a standing temporary ban on import of fresh vegetables – green chillies, beans and cauliflower from India, residents of Gelephu are seen buying these vegetables from across the border.

Almost everyday, the Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA) officials at the border gate in Gelephu intercepts small quantities of the banned vegetables entering the town. Most of these seized items are bought for domestic use.
