The Phuentsholing bus terminal was recently moved next to the Norgay cinema hall, for residents it has caused an inconvenience but for the decision makers at city corporation who agree, they say it is necessary.According to a Phuentsholing resident, “The old bus terminal was very centrally located, getting on the bus and getting off was easy since we were in the middle of town. Now its almost out of town.”
A parent said, “The bridge going to the new bus stand is so congested. It has always been a problem, I tell my children to be careful but now with bus and taxis increasing the traffic there its very unsafe.”
Another resident said, “You know the bridge just allows one vehicle to pass at a time just driving there is difficult enough since there is almost always vehicles waiting to pass.”
“This whole move of the bus terminal has been very inconvenient, the best feature of the old bus terminal was that it was in walking distance, unlike now.”
Speaking to the city corporation thrompon he said, “We had to move because the space in town was getting too congested, there are road widening works taking place, a new drainage system and overall the bus terminal required a larger space than the existing one.”
He added, “The site next to Norgay was chosen as it had a much larger space for a new bus terminal.”
The survey work of the new terminal is almost complete, the thrompon said, “but actual work will only begin after the monsoons.”
In response to the complaints the thrompon replied that he agreed at the moment there were inconveniences with the bridge, and the new site but it was a necessary move.
“Its a momentary sacrifice but in the long run we are doing what ever we can to make Phuentsholing more planned and organised for the benefit of all the residents.”
He added that a new bridge was going to be built widening the way for all users and all rubble from the river protection works had been removed from the side of the road to make passage a little bit easier for motor users and pedestrians.
