Relations: A high-level delegation from Japan led by Member of the House of Representatives of Japan and Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, Katsuyuki Kawai, is scheduled to arrive in Bhutan tomorrow to attend the opening ceremony of Japan Week in Bhutan, according to a foreign ministry press release.

Japan Week was formally launched on October 22, 2006 in Thimphu during the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Japan. It is an annual event organized in Bhutan by the Japanese Embassy in New Delhi along with the Japan Foundation.

During Japan Week, cultural events like Japanese cultural performances, Judo, karate and soccer demonstrations, Japanese language seminars, and screening of Japanese films are held.

Exchanges between the two sides during the Japan Week have served the very important purpose of supplementing the efforts of the two governments to enhance cooperation in the field of culture, sports, academia and people-to-people contact. Japan Week 2016 is scheduled from September 24 to October 1.

As Japan Week this year coincides with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Japan, the home and foreign affairs ministries, Tourism Council of Bhutan and Bhutan Post are collaborating with the organisers to ensure the success of Japan Week.
