Chakrasamvara: His Holiness the Je Khenpo donated more than Nu 14M to different agencies and organisations, after the grand tshokhor ceremony or fest offering for the conclusion of Pel Dechhog Khorlo Dompai wangchen (Chakrasamvara) in Punakha yesterday.
Of the total, Nu10M was donated to Jigme Dorji Wangchuck national referral hospital, Thimphu to procure an echo-graphic machine, and another Nu 3M to buy a dialysis machine for kidney patients.
Nu 500,000 was donated for poor patient’s welfare fund in Mongar regional referral hospital.
The fund would help address shortage of machines and equipment in the hospital, dratsang lhentshog secretary Karma Penjor said. “The donation is entirely for the needy in the country,” he said.
His Holiness offered Nu 1.33M to Machhen lhakhang, a temple inside the Punakha dzong, where Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal’s embalmed body is kept. The fund was the first sacred offering from those made to His Holiness by patrons and public at the wangchen.
His Holiness also gave Nu 1,000 each to more than 1,000 volunteers and people involved in the wangchhen from various agencies and organisations.
Donations were made from the millions offered to His Holiness for empowering the Chakrasamvara blessing.
The Wangchhen committee, whose members were also the patrons, offered Nu 3.5M, two gold-plated statues (choeten) as ku (body offering), 112 volumes of kangur (Buddhist canon) as sungten (speech offering), a gold-plated stupa as
thugten (mind offering), a pair of gold-plated pitchers (bumpa), two tolas (one tola is 11.66g) of gold, two kilos of silver and brocades and silk.
“Offerings in cash could come to around Nu 10M,” the committee’s secretary general Thinley Thogmaith said.
