Wangdue-Trongsa highway cleared by evening

Accident: A truck travelling from Wangduephodrang to Trongsa was buried under a landslide that occurred between Rukubji and Chazam yesterday morning, blocking the highway for a day.

Road Safety and Transport Authority (RSTA) officials in Wangduephodrang said the incident occurred when the truck-driver stopped to clear the boulder lying in the middle of the road.

Officials said the driver managed to escape when the truck was buried under the landslide.

The landslide has left many vehicles coming from Trongsa and Wangduephodrang stranded till 5:20pm yesterday.

RSTA officials said heavy boulders blocked around 20mtrs of the road but the contractor working on that particular stretch has deployed at least two excavators to clear the landslide.

Officials said the landslide might have occurred from the widening works completed months ago.

Meanwhile, the commuters claim that Wangdue-Trongsa highway road has become risky and dusty.
