Lhuentse saw a 95.8 percent voter turnout at the postal ballot facilitation booths (FB), the highest among the dzongkhags.

The dzongkhag saw 92 percent voter turnout in the primary round, also the highest in the country.

Dzongkhag election officials attribute the outcome to the rigorous advocacy programme and the follow-up programmes held in the dzongkhag.

“The main reason could be the office to office advocacy programme for the eligible government and corporate offices regardless of the number of employees,” dzongkhag election officer Sangay Dendup said. “We also kept calling them to remind each and every voter who did not turn up on the second and third day of the facilitation booth to come and vote.”

Of the 970 registered FB voters, 929 voted at the two respective polling stations at Lhuentse high school and Autsho MSS. At Lhuentse high school 712 of the 742 voters voted while at Autsho MSS, the voter turnout was 217 of the 228 registered.

A PWD worker from Trashigang Tenzin, 55, based in Lhuentse who came to vote at Lhuentse high school said it was convenient to vote through the postal facilitation booth.

“If we were to hire a car all the way to my village from Lhuentse, the expenses would run in thousands,” he said. “But thanks to the change, we are able to vote for our candidates from the place of residence with minimum cost.”

According to the election officials, the number of registered postal FB increased by five at Lhuentse high school in Gangzur-Minjey constituency compared to the primary round.

However, in Maenbi-Tsaenkhar constituency, the number of registered FB voters had decreased from 237 to 228.
