Places at higher altitude are likely to experience snowfall and light rainfall today while eastern, western and southern region would have cloudy weather for about two days, the National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology (NCHM) forecasts.

The centre’s weather and climate services division stated on its social media page yesterday evening that a western disturbance due to cyclonic circulation over northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir and the neighbourhood at 3.1km above mean sea level is moving from east to northeast direction. “Therefore the temperature is expected to drop in many parts of Bhutan.”

The update stated that towards the evening and night hours, light rain or snow is expected at higher altitude areas.

The division’s deputy chief, Tayba B Tamang said that the eastern, western and southern region would experience light rain and mostly cloudy weather. “Winter usually starts from December and ends around end of February. The current weather is what we call post monsoon, which is basically autumn.”

He added that even if central Bhutan sees light snowfall, the chance of it settling is minimum. The weather is expected to improve from December 1.
