Multiple World and Olympic Judo Champion Toshihiko Koga visited Bhutan this week. He came to visit the Bhutan Judo Association and the young Judo programme in Bhutan. With the support of Maeda and OGWellness Companies in Japan, he donated a new set of Judo mats worth over $30,000 to the association. His team consisted of members from both companies.
President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee HRH Prince Jigyel U Wangchuck also graced the occasion for the handing over ceremony of the Judo Mats. His Royal Highness spoke with Mr Koga and thanked him for visiting Bhutan and supporting Judo in Bhutan.
After retirement from competitive Judo, Mr Koga has been heading the prestigious Judo program at the International Pacific University in Japan producing a gold medalist at the World Championship in 2015. He also runs a Judo program for children.
After the handing over ceremony, he conducted a Judo clinic for members of BJA and demonstrated his seoi-nage (shoulder throw) technique for which he is famous.
