Crime: Phuentsholing police apprehended a 47-year-old man from Tshento, Paro for impersonation yesterday.

Police claimed that they found him asking for money in the town wearing the uniform of his former employing company, Jachung Security Service (JSS). Police said that while asking for money is not a crime, asking for it while wearing the uniform is.

Police said that upon investigation, it was found that the man had been terminated by JSS about three months ago. “The suspect also confessed he was terminated because of his alcohol problem,” an official said.

He told police officials that he had come to Phuentsholing after trying for a job at the Kholongchhu hydropower project but since he did not have money to travel further, he started to collect money from people wearing his JSS uniform.

The man had collected Nu 1,100 from some shops in the town.

Although the man is not likely to be charged for asking for money, he is likely to be booked for impersonation as he no longer is a JSS employee.
