The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) charged a 28-year old man from Samar in Haa for allegedly trying to flee after taking a six-eyed dzee (cat’s eye).

The case was registered in Thimphu district court on June 13.

OAG charged the man for misdemeanour offence for trying to run away with the dzee that belongs to a woman.

The alleged incident took place on May 17 in one of the restaurants at the heart of Thimphu town.

According to OAG, the class eight drop-out, who is a former monk and now a businessman, called the woman on May 16, claiming that he would buy her dzee for Nu 7.7 million (M).

But on May 17, when the two met, the man, while checking the authenticity of the dzee ran away.

“The woman shouted for help and chased the man. He was caught near the old taxi parking by an off-duty police personnel,” the OAG charges stated.

According to sources, the woman tried to sell the dzee to the suspect’s brother a month before the incident but failed.

The committee from the home ministry’s Department of Culture authenticated the dzee to be an original and stated it could fetch Nu 600,000.

The OAG prosecutor, based on the dzee’s market value charged the man for a misdemeanor.
