Man detained for ID fraud
Deceptive Practice: Paro police have charged a man with providing false information in order to obtain identification documents.
According to police, the man, using the bio-details of a woman from Samtse, had obtained a citizenship identity card, passport, and voter identity card for his wife, who is from India.
The suspect had also obtained a marriage certificate using the documents. Citizenship identity cards were also obtained for all his children.
Police officials were not aware if the suspect had obtained identification documents for other people.
Paro police superintendent, major Jatshola, said that a dzongkhag census officer had detected the deceptive practices during a check earlier this month.
The man is currently under custody, and has been charged with deceptive practices, forgery, and violating electoral laws.
