MHPA’s two turbines stop working

Two turbines of the recently inaugurated Mangdechhu hydroelectric project stopped functioning for the last few days.

The Joint Managing Director of MHPA, Chencho Tshering said the two turbine stopped working because of some technical glitches. “It will be fixed within this month and exporting of power will resume,” he assured.

The issue was discussed during the visit of the economic affairs minister, Loknath Sharma, who was in Trongsa to sign the annual performance agreement with the project.

Lyonpo said that although there will be implication on the revenue generation when all the units are not functioning, there will be glitches.

He said that although the project is inaugurated, it doesn’t mean it will run without any problems.

“We cannot assure that such mega projects will not have problems in five to six months after its commissioning,” he said. ‘if there is problem, we should find solutions.”

The minister was assured that the problems would be resolved in the next 10 days. “It will be fixed within this month and export of electricity will resume,” said the Deputy Managing Director.

The APA was signed between the MD and JMD of MHPA with the chairman and Economic Minister LokNnath Sharma on September13 in the presence of the contractors, consultants and staffs of MHPA.

The details of the APA was was not shared with Kuensel.
