Privy Council to be constituted

home 16 February, 2009 - The Royal Privy Council, or Gyal Then Tshokdey, will be formally constituted on February 14. The Constitution of the Kingdom of Bhutan under Article 2, section 14, calls for the establishment of the Privy Council that will consist of two members appointed by the Druk Gyalpo, one member nominated by the Lhyengye Zhungtshog and one member nominated by the National Council.

Former minister, Chenkyab Dorji, deputy minister of the national environment commission Dasho Nado Rinchen, the secretary of department of culture, Dasho Sangay Wangchug (nominated by the Lhyengye Zhungtshog), and Trongsa national council representative, Dr Jagar Dorji (nominated by the National Council) are the members of the Privy Council.

The Council will deal with all matters pertaining to the privileges of the Druk Gyalpo and the Royal Family, render advice to the Druk Gyalpo on matters concerning the Throne and the Royal Family, and any other matter as may be commanded by the Druk Gyalpo
