6 April, 2009 - The Mongar court on March 30 sentenced the former Silambi gup to an imprisonment term of three years four months for official misconduct, embezzlement and forgery.
Wangdi Tshering made fictitious master roll for the rural water supply scheme work in the gewog and submitted it to the dzongkhag for payment. The fake list of names and thumbprints were reflected on the master roll and fulfilling the formalities, the dzongkhag released Nu 279,990.
The gup refunded Nu 56,000 to the district finance section later. Wangdi Tshering was also accused for forging the signature of a gewog accountant in a hand receipt, which stated that the he had taken only Nu. 8,000 and the rest were kept with the accountant.
The court also ordered the gup to refund the remaining balance of Nu.173990 to the government.
