7 September, 2009 - Around 1,330 graduates from all parts of the country are in Thimphu to attend the 11-day national graduates orientation programme, which will start tomorrow with the theme ‘leaders of tomorrow’.
Organised jointly by the employment and labour department, royal civil service commission and department of culture, the programme is to provide a platform for graduates to keep abreast with government policies and reorient themselves with the country’s culture and heritage.
For the first time, however, organisers are exploring an option to provide accommodation at the Harmony Centre for graduates without parents or relatives in Thimphu.
With hundreds of graduates pouring in from various dzongkhags, many are looking for temporary accommodation or putting up with friends and relatives to attend the orientation programme.
“We’ve had discussions on accommodation arrangements for graduates who really need it during the orientation weeks,” said labour minister Lyonpo Dorji Wangdi. “There are about 100 beds in the centre and accommodation would be given on case by case basis.”
Organisers would brief the graduates today on the various programs during orientation. There will also be a job fair for the graduates to explore their employment options.
During the 11-day programme, speakers from different agencies and ministries will talk to the graduates on various issues and policies on good governance, democracy, employment opportunities and the economy.
They will also be given an orientation on Driglam Namzha. The programme will end on September 18.
There were 1,222 graduates, 403 female and 819 male, who attended the orientation in 2008.
