2 November, 2009 - A prayer ceremony in honour of the memory of Late Smt. Indira Gandhi, prime minister of India, was conducted on October 31 in the Tashichho Dzong. The ceremony was attended by His Majesty the King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck, Their Majesties the Queen Mothers, The Indian Ambassador to Bhutan Pavan K Varma and officials from the Embassy of India.
Meanwhile, staff working in different organization and private sector in Bumthang gathered to perform a three-day Hindu Puja, from October 31 to November 2, to mark the first coronation ceremony of the Fifth Druk Gyalpo, His Majesty Jigme Khesar.
A press release from the Puja organizing committee stated that the prayer was also conducted for the benefit of the victims of the recent earthquakes in eastern Bhutan.
They recited prayers from holy books like Bhagawat, Bedh, Chandi, Rudri followed by lighting of 1000 butter lamps.
