His Majesty arrives in New Delhi

home 21 December, 2009 - His Majesty the King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck has arrived in New Delhi on a five-day State Visit to India.

On his arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport this morning His Majesty the King was received by the Indian minister of state for commerce & industry, Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia, the foreign secretary, Nirupama Rao and the Indian ambassador to Bhutan, Pavan K Varma.

His Majesty the King will hold meetings with the Indian leaders including chairperson of the UPA and president of congress, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. His Majesty will also meet the leader of the opposition party. Several important agreements ranging from hydropower projects to ICT to environment will be concluded during the visit.

His Majesty the King is accompanied by foreign minister Lyonpo Ugyen Tshering, economic affairs minister Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk, chairman of the royal privy council Lyonpo Chyenkhab Dorji, Chief Operations Officer of Royal Bhutan Army Major General Batoo Tshering, and Chairman of Druk Holdings & Investments Lyonpo Om Pradhan and other senior government officials.

This is the first official State Visit to a foreign country after the formal Coronation of 2008.
