Bhutan-Thai Posts’ tie-up

home 24 December, 2009 - The Thailand Post will help Bhutan Post develop and reform itself as a postal organization, according to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that was signed between the two organisations in Dochula, Thimphu on December 18.

Integrating ICT in postal operations, improving processing of international mail in transit via Thailand, creating ICT-based postal services in rural areas, developing philately and related products, and printing and issuing commemorative stamps on agreed themes are some of the areas that the two postal organisations will cooperate in.

Thailand will also help develop Bhutan Post’s human resource planning, train employees and exchange postal experts to bring about an improvement of postal services in Bhutan.

“At a time when Bhutan Post is facing a decline in mail volume, owing to the advent of ICT and newer technologies, the signing of the MoU will be a step forward for Bhutan Post in its efforts to develop and reform itself as a postal organization, thereby contributing to the main objectives of social and economic development of the nation,” said communications secretary and chairman of the Bhutan Post board, Dasho Kinley Dorji. “Bhutan Post needs to define its role and we’ve chosen Thailand Post because they have good rural postal coverage.”

“The cooperation is mainly for the prosperity of Bhutan Post and it’ll strengthen with the passage of time,” said Ormsim Chivapruck, Thailand Post president.
