The Nu 4 million incinerator installed by the Tala Hydro-electric project Authority (THPA) was inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of National Environment Commission (NEC), Dasho Nado Rinchen on February 17.
According to a news release from the THPA, the incinerator has the capacity to burn about 100 kilogrammes of civic and bio-medical waste per hour.
The incinerator will be enough to burn all the wastes produced by the residents of THPA and its colonies in Wangkha, Arekha and Sinchekha and the local residents of Gedu. The incinerator will also be used in burning the bio-medical wastes of the 20-bedded Gedu hospital and other wastes produced by the various offices at Gedu.
The incinerator was installed with the view to preserve the environment and making a qualitative improvement in the surroundings of the fast growing town.
Apart from the incinerator, the THPA has also set up roadside plantations, compensatory afforestation, built water and sewerage treatment plants and has restored slopes marred by quarrying and dumping.
