Pray it does not but if your vehicle breaks down in Trongsa you could be in big trouble.
You would most likely have to hire a truck to carry your broken down car to Lobesa in Wangduephodrang, a five-hour drive away.
That is what most car owners in Trongsa do every time their automobile breaks down.
The two local automobile workshops are of little help. One workshop services two wheelers, which constitute the majority of the vehicles in Trongsa. But spares are very expensive. For example, a spark plug for a motobike that costs Nu.100 in Bumthang costs Nu. 150.
The other workshop manned by the department of roads, services only medium and heavy vehicles.
Unfortunately these workshops remain closed most of the time.
The proprietor of one of the workshops told Kuensel that he had appealed to the dzongkhag administration for a plot of land to establish a full-fledged workshop. “Without a plot I cannot embark upon it,” he said.
Many others who had licenses to establish workshops could not do so because they did not have land.
The proprietor of Ugyen spare parts in Bumthang said vehicle owners in Trongsa bought spare parts from his shop.
A business women in Trongsa, Phuntsho Wangmo, said she bought spare parts for her Maruti van from Bumthang or from Phuentsholing. And when things got bad she loaded her car for Lobesa.
