has detected an
embezzlement of more than Nu. 13 million within the Education Ministry.
According to an audit official, the money was embezzled by the procurement section while procuring science and lab equipments for schools. The irregularity was confirmed in May this year.
The Royal Audit Authority has submitted the report to the education ministry, finance ministry and the Anti Corruption Commission.
“It took six months for RAA to confirm the embezzlement and is expecting a response from the concerned authorities next month,” said an official.
The education director, Tshewang Tandin told media that a ministerial committee had been formed to look into the issue.
This is the second major embezzlement case in the education ministry so far. In May-June this year, actions were taken against education officials who had misused a total fund of Nu. 2.7 million. Administrative action were taken against 11 education officials and a joint director sentenced to five years.
