Centennial - the latest FM

home 25 February, 2008 - FM listeners in Thimphu valley should have one more channel, the fourth, to tune into with Centennial Radio’s 101 FM to go on air in the first week of March.

The new private radio station, which was launched to coincide with the 28th birth anniversary of the Druk Gyalpo, is dedicated to the monarchy, whose rule has brought about good things in the lives of the Bhutanese people, stated a press release from the station.

“It was my dream to have my own radio station,” said the chief executive officer, Dorji Wangchuk.

Dorji Wangchuk told Kuensel that, with three radio stations already in place catering to youth and rural areas, he “wanted to come up with something a little more serious,” and target an urban audience over 25 years old with programmes centred on news, current affairs, music and entertainment.

Centennial radio’s second channel, Rigsar FM, will hit the ether in about three months. Their services will be available in Thimphu initially and later to the whole country. The station is located on the ground floor of the Karma tshongkhang building on Norzin lam.

As of now, the radio station has 13 regular employees and 15 part-timers. It also has a news team and talks are on with the two private papers on sharing their news with Centennial radio.

Centennial radio is a branch of Chenzig media and was established at a cost of Nu 3 million, according to the CEO.
