National table tennis team leaves for Delhi

Table Tennis: The national Table Tennis team leaves for Delhi, India, today to participate in the qualification tournament of South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship from July 20 to 23. The championship is scheduled later this year in Qatar.

Bhutan’s team, which comprise of six players, will participate in two categories -junior cadet single and double, and team match, with three players in each team, in the cadet category.

“For the past two years, we have been training really hard to qualify for the Asian TT Championship,” coach Dala Thinley said.

Players said they are aiming for gold as they have prepared well for the tournament.

A teacher Kenny Raj Peter, who usually helps in coaching the players, said he has observed the players display their tactics and techniques with confidence.

“Bhutan Olympic Committee gives good support but still not as much as other sports like football and basketball,” the Yangchenphu HSS teacher said.
