While academic sessions for the three new colleges in eastern dzongkhags started last month, the collages have not been formally inaugurated.

This is because the names for each college have been submitted to the Chancellor, His Majesty The Druk Gyalpo for final approval, according to the education minister Norbu Wangchuk.

“The three colleges have started their programmes and once their names are approved, inaugurations will be done on an auspicious day,” he said.

The college for social sciences in Gyalpoizhing, Mongar has 79 students opting for computer applications. Yonphula in Trashigang has 32 teachers undergoing masters in English while 12 students are enrolled in the college for Rigzhung in Transhiyangtse.

Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk said that the college in Yonphula is not a part of Sherubtse College. “Since Sherubtse College is near Yonphula, it is helping in establishment of the new college.”

He said the college in Yonphula could be developed into a college like Sherubtse. “We are still in the process of making the master plan and once the plans are ready the college will develop year by year.”
