Archery: Ngatshang and Mongar gewog teams have qualified for the knockout round of the Khesar Gyalpo Archery Tournament, which begins on October 10.

Ngatshang gewog team beat Balam and Saling gewog teams scoring 27 points with 16 kareys (target hits) yesterday.

Balam gewog team strongly contested with Ngatshang team until the last round scoring 21 points with 10 kareys. A single karey in the final round would have taken the match to a penalty shootout.

Mongar gewog easily defeated Drametse and Shermung gewog teams on September 18. Mongar gewog scored 28 points with 18 kareys.

The Mongar and Ngatshang  teams did not lose a match in the league round among the 17 gewogs in the dzongkhag.

They are the last two teams to qualify and will play against 10 other teams from other five eastern dzongkhags.

In total, 70 gewogs of six eastern dzongkhags took part in the league round of the tournament.

The best 12 teams from the dzongkhags will play knockout rounds at Gyalpoishing, Mongar.

The teams participating in the Khesar Gyalpo Archery Tournament strictly adhere with traditional archery rule and regulations of Bhutan Indigenous Games and Sports Association using traditional bow and arrow.

Office of the Gyaltshab, Gyalpozhing Mongar is organising the tournament to commemorate the 60th birth anniversary of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

The final is scheduled on October 18.
